Thomas Struth's Museum Photographs

I went to the Met on a whim the other day. You know, getting a dose of culture when I can- especially because I live in NYC and I try and take advantage of all the cultural centers around me. During my visit, I came across German photographer Thomas Struth's exhibit and was so glad I did. I've never heard of him before, but feel in love with his work, most of all his Museum Photograph series. I love the idea of looking at art in a museum, of people looking at art in a museum (or historic site).

If you are in the NYC area I really recommend checking this exhibit out. While you're at it, don't forget the Matisse exhibit at MOMA!

autumn makeup edit

It's that time of year where I like to bring out my berry colored products and change up my make up routine to go with the cooler weather. My two go to lip products at the moments are Revlon's matte balm stain in Sulty- a brownish berry color with vintage vibes and Laura Mercier Healthy Lips which is a flattering sheer wash of berry.

These colors go perfectly with my new blush by Nars in Sin. This blush has been on my wish list forever now, and as fall approach I finally caved and bought it and I am so glad I did! It's a berry tone with gold shimmer and the perfect fall/ winter blush in my opinion. While it looks scary in the pan, with a light hand the shimmer gives a healthy glow to my pale skin and the plum shade is a unique and gorgeous color on the cheeks.

As for my eyes, I've been reaching for MAC's paint pot in groundwork. I like that this deepens the color of my lids but since it's matte, it can be quite understated. However, sometimes I want my eyes to pop more and that's when Stila's Kitten comes in. This shimmery neutral shade is loved year round, but lately I've been loving it as a bright inner corner highlight to balance out the darker tones on the rest of my face.

What are your favorite fall products?

fall music mix

As the seasons change, I always seem to get inspired to make a new compilation of songs I've been enjoying. Bands like Dead Man's Bones and Timbre Timber are quite eerie and atmospheric- perfect for getting in the Halloween spirit. I've also been loving the songs included by Jungle, Glass Animals and Sylan Esso which all are soothing yet hypnotic. Listening to music and going for walks in the park with a chai latte is my favorite thing to do this time of year.

what I wore to the beach

I was so happy to get a chance to head to the beach last weekend. I was ready for a change of scenery, and eager to relax with my feet in the sand. I stayed with my aunt and uncle, with my cousins and their significant others. Even my mom flew up! It was so much fun. Here's what I brought…

Essie polish // I painted both my toe and nails in the color "meet me at sunset" which I think it the perfect orangey red.
Canvas tote // I got this tote last year at Madewell and it's the perfect summer bag for trekking around my magazine, sunblock, etc.
Skargorn t-shirt dress // I have other Skargorn t-shirts, so when I saw the dress version I had to have it. It's so comfortable and made a great beach cover up to throw on.
Jack Black lip balm // Best thing about this lip balm besides hella hydration? It has SPF 25. Burnt lips are no bueno.
Panama hat // If my face isn't shaded, I get too overheated so a hat is a must for me. I love how classic and stylish this one is.
Swim bottoms // How cute are these? I just wore my favorite black top with these and I love the high-waisted fit.
Birkenstocks // I hardly take these things off in the summer so off course I took them to the beach. Is there any shoe more comfortable than these?

loving lately

My birthday was in May and consequently I was feeling spendy and I picked up a few things I had on my wish list. Thankfully, I am loving all my new goodies and the products have become part of my everyday routine.

First off, I decided to try powder dry shampoo since I've only used the aerosol variety and now I am completely converted. The Bumble and bumble Pret-a-Powder is a lovely product that smells good, is easy to apply, and does a nice job of getting ride of excess oil, without a lot of buildup.
Whilst waiting in line at Sephora I got a whiff of the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White perfume from a display. I'm very indecisive when it comes to perfume, but after smelling this I knew I wanted to have it. I love the mix of peony and musk.

I thought since it's summer, it's a good time to finally try the much hyped about Caudalie Beauty Elixir and I have to say I've been enjoying it. After I wash my face in the morning I spritz this on and it feels so refreshing. As far as skin benefits it's hard to say, but I feel like my skin has been well behaved.

For makeup, I got myself a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick after admiring this beautiful looking product for ages. Mine is in the color rose and I love having a pink highlighter in my collection now. It really makes my face look alive and glowing. I've also been reaching for an old Bobbi Brown favorite which is their Corrector. I use this exclusively in my inner eye area where I have a lot of bluish color going on and it does and great job of canceling that color out.

To apply the corrector, I've been using my new concealer brush from Sigma. The shape of this brush is perfect for applying the corrector as well as concealer around my nose, where I get a lot of redness. I've also been using this brush for either foundation or my under eye concealer (I've got a lot of concealer going on).

Last, I decided to throw in a birthday present I got myself, the Marc Jacobs Baker Watch. I have been loving this watch and it really adds a nice touch to any outfit.

Phew. My feeling spends time is over but I love playing around with my new additions.

brooklyn botanic garden

These photos were taken back in April, before the cherry blossom trees were in full bloom. I tried to put off my first visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens but a sunny spring day came along and I just decided to grab my camera and go. Even though not all the cherry blossoms were at their prime, and the rose garden (pictured above) was pre bloom, I had a lovely time walking the grounds and taking in the colorful scenery. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday.

current wish list

1. Roses De Chloe eau de toilette // I got a sample of this and oh my goodness I am in love. For some reason the scent is very nostalgic of my childhood. I'm weird with scents like that. Anyway, it's the perfect spring scent.

2. Topshop JENGA shoes // There's something so classic about these peep-toed shoes. I can imagine finding them in a thrift shop and I think that's why I like them. Can't decide if I like the black or brown pair more…

3. Illesteva Leonard sunglasses // I've been admiring this brand's sunglasses for a while and I am particularly taken with this pair. This seems to be a popular style and I want myself some!

4. Bobbi Brown blush brush // Do I have other blush brushes that work just fine? Yes. That doesn't mean I don't covet this brush for perfect blush application. Maybe a treat yo self moment will take over and I will finally cave.

ladurée

I think macaroons are having a moment because not only are they sweet and delicious, but they are extremely photogenic. The pops of color each flavor has is fun to look at and equally mouth watering. On a beautiful spring day I made my way to Laudree on Madison Avenue for the first time. The small store is beautifully decorated with macaroon displays, candles and pretty mint green painted walls. The two women working were efficient yet unsmiling, a theme of the luxe neighborhood full of high end retail stores.  I stood in line contemplating which flavors I was going to try. I ended up with raspberry, salted caramel, and vanilla and each was equally delicious. I savored every bite! If you are in New York I recommend stopping by this adorable shop and seeing what all the hype is about for yourself.

the spring beauty edit

Spring had sprung and it's time to edit my beauty routine for the warmer weather by welcoming brighter shades of makeup, light bases, and fresh scents.

A new base I picked up recently has been on my wish list for months and with the 15% VIB sale, I finally made the splurge. The Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer has been highly praised in the beauty community, and being a big fan of the brand, and light coverage, I knew I would like this product. I  have the shade Terre Neuve and the formulation is light but with good amount of coverage, a subtle glow, and an SPH 30 makes this a great product for spring and summer.

A cream blush looks so fresh and dewy on the checks and works well with my dry skin. The Stila Convertible Color in Lillium is a pretty neutral pink color that I like to apply with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush for a natural, flawless finish. It doubles as a lip color but I don't like this shade on my lips. A color I do love this time of year, however, is the Mac lipstick in Crosswires. I like to use this lipstick as more of a stain so I apply on small amount on my lips then rub it in with my finger. The result is a lovely coral pink tint that really brightens up my complexion.

On to nail polishes. I really wear whatever I am currently in the mood for, but I love wearing pastels in the springtime. Essie's Lilacism, a grayish lilac color, is the perfect spring shade in my opinion. My main complaint is this polish chips like crazy on me so I also have to remember to use a base coat. I also love wearing the aqua blue shade of Essie's Turquoise & Caicos. It's a fun shade without being too in your face.

Lastly, it was time to trade out my warm sweet candles and body wash for more fresh and uplifting scents. I started using the Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit Shower Gel and it's such a refreshing citrus scent. It's on the pricey side for a shower gel but the smell is divine and it's quite moisturizing. For candles, I'm glad I picked up the Bath & Body Honeysuckle Bouquet candle. There were having a sale on the mason jar candles so that's why I went for this one and I like the packaging. The scent is subtle and light and reminds of fresh flowers of spring.

spring music mix

I've complied a list of songs that I have been listening to lately and that go along with my spring spirit. Think lots of dreamy melodies and some Sam Cooke because he makes me happy. I've also included two songs from Beck's new album. If you haven't listened to it I suggest you check it out! I'm in love. Anyway, hope you enjoy the mix and let me know some songs you've been enjoying lately.

nyc sunny stroll

^^I'm obsessed with french bulldogs right now^^

NYC just seems like a whole different world when the sun it out. It's more inviting, and I could spend all day walking around in the sunshine. The other day I took a long walk from 14th street then made my way south to Washington Square Park where I sat on a bench for a bit. I then got myself some iced coffee and headed west on Bleecker and eventually made my way back to Union Square. Walking around aimlessly on a sunny day might be my favorite thing to do in this crazy city.

the high line

Something wonderful happened last weekend- the sun finally came out! After weeks and weeks of grim cold weather, the clouds briefly disappeared and I spend my Saturday with the sunshine on my face, exploring a part of the city I've never been to- the High Line.  Once an elevated railroad, the High Line is now a public park located on Manhattan's west side. I entered at 28th street and slowly made my way south, stopping for a bit at one of the wooden lounge seating area and soaked up some rays while I people watched. It was a crowded scene as I imagine a lot of people came out for the nice weather. Along the 'park' there are countless seating areas where people read, chatted, ate, etc. It's such a cool place and I am happy I finally checked it out. Also, it snowed again today. Goodbye again sun, for now. More photos…

insta-piration

I'm loving le_yuk's instagram feed at the moment, and her gorgeous images of famous locations throughout Paris. There are so many amazing people to follow on instagram who present such a unique perspective of the world through their images. It's even better when the images are in lust worthy locations like Paris, France.

workout playlist

It has been very slushy and gross outside for a long time, so please excuse my dirty sneakers if you will. Yes, this winter has been quite brutal; with the freezing temperatures and frequent snowfall, a lot of my spare time has been spent indoors. Usually, to get my heart rate up, I go on long walks outside but since this has been nearly impossible lately, I decided to start a trial at a nearby gym. I've been enjoying it so far. My machine of choice is the elliptical and while I am breaking a sweat, I love some good tunes to keep me going. I've complied a list of some of my favorite songs to workout to… no judging ;)

link loves

I've never done one of these link roundup posts but I thought it would be fun to share some things that caught my eye around the web...

Love the campaign the above image is from. Karen Walker used the Kenyan artisans, who help craft pouches that accompany her Summer 2014 sunglasses, as models for the new designs.

I enjoyed reading these thoughts on Beyonce and Jay Z's relationship on the Man Repeller blog.

I am probably late on the bandwagon to Modern Seinfeld tweets, but I had to share because I find it so clever and hilarious.

I think I am finally getting into lipgloss. I picked this one up at the drugstore this weekend and I really like it so far.

I starting following this instagram because she constantly posts the loveliest photos of nyc.

I was so sad and shocked to hear the news of Philip Seymour Hoffman's unfortunate death. He is/was one of my favorite actors. I love this movie and this scene with him.

oil obsession

So I've come to the conclusion that oils are now an essential part of my 'personal care' routine. It started when I bought the Josie Maran Argon Oil on a whim, standing in line at Sephora. Never having tried putting oil on my face, I was a bit skeptical as I applied the product before I went to bed. However, the next morning there was no doubt my skin looked plump and hydrated. I even experimented putting it on my hair too, with great results. Something about oil just feels more hydrating than lathering on creams. I've even started using face oils on top of pimples that form on my forehead. I heard when you breakout around your forehead, the cause can be because your skin is dehydrated, and lo and behold, the next morning the bump has gone down.

I want to continue this hydration to other parts of my body and I am saving up for the L'Occitaine Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil with Almond Oil and the Caudalie Divine Oil. From the reviews, these products not only smell amazing, but are super hydrating, leaving skin soft and smooth. I don't know about you, but that sounds too luxurious to pass up. It might be the polar vortex causing me to daydream about expensive oils, because my skin has been so dry this winter.

I have managed to get my hands on the Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil and, just like the other products, the scent is so lovely and it does a great job of hydrating my cuticles. It is a little messy at first because it takes a while to sink it, but I guess that's the same with all oil products? Either way, I'm hooked.

afternoon at the met

So I have a 'thing' for museums. I love going to them, exploring new ones, revisiting favorites. I've even spent some time volunteering and interning at some. Not only because I have strong interest in art and art history, but I love the actual spaces of museums themselves: the architecture, the layout, the lighting- and the quietness of it. Even though popular museums like the Metropolitan can get busy, there is still a tranquility about this museum that I enjoy. The day I went was a rare sunny day this January, and the light pouring in from the big open windows in the Greek and Roman Art wing was especially pleasant.
