natation synchronisee

How gorgeous are these photographs by french photographer Jean-Baptise Courtier? I love the juxtaposition of the natural landscape with the discipline of synchronized swimming. What an interesting idea that he executes beautifully.

donna tartt

I started reading The Goldfinch a few days ago and now I can't put it down. It's written by one of my favorite authors,  Donna Tartt, and I find her quite inspirational. Back in high school,  my mom told me I should read one of her favorite books, The Little Friend. I loved the book, but I also remember staring at her author photo in back of the book, transfixed by her. I've since read The Secret History and have now started her newest book.  Reviews of The Goldfinch have been popping up and every time I see a picture of her I have to stop. That blunt haircut, her somewhat masculine clothes, and her confident gaze- the word "badass" just comes to mind. I just love her and her style.

the first snow

I didn't want to miss the opportunity to take pictures of central park in the snow, so I braved the cold and went for a long and enjoyable walk around the park. I wasn't the only one with this idea, because there were a lot of people holding up their dslr's taking pictures of the same things, it was kind of funny. By the end of my walk my toes were numb and my nose was running, but I was glad I did it. Central Park, thanks for being my reliable muse.

touristy weekend

Thanksgiving couldn't come fast enough this year because my mom was coming into town. My mom and I have so much fun together, so having the whole city to explore together is a treat. Friday night we went and saw Catching Fire in IMAX because we read the books around the same time, saw the first movie together, and basically I couldn't wait any longer to see it. We loved it! The rest of the weekend consisted of wandering around the city and doing some touristy things I have yet to do.

^^the displays at abc carpet & home (not "touristy" but I wanted to include it)  and the giant christmas decorations on sixth avenue sure got me in the christmas spirit!

We also went and saw the play 'Jersey Boys' which follows the story of real-life band Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I liked it! I had no idea how many recognizable songs this group has and now this has become my new favorite song.

to the cloisters

I spent my Sunday last weekend visiting The Cloisters. Although situated in a different location, the cloisters are a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that focuses on medieval art. It was a gorgeous day before the cold weather hit, and the walk from the station was very pleasant as it allowed stunning views of the Hudson River. The architecture of the building is medieval inspired, and the museum was so quiet and peaceful, it was fun to imagine what it would be like to live during that time.

jared chambers photography

I stared following jared chambers on instagram recently and I have fallen in love with his photographs. They are so atmospheric, beautiful, and let's just say he never came across a foggy day that he didn't like. After browsing through his pictures I notice a style he likes to do frequently. It's to compose basically a nature shot, but with a person who looks far away, giving a sense of scale to the scenery that is quite striking.

I am now suffering from a case of wanderlust.

All pictures are from his tumblr

rainy day outfit

I got the random urge to show my outfit on a rainy day in the city. This ensemble is such a typical one for me- skinny jeans, boots, and some sort of comfy boyish top (or sweater). It hasn't been too cold yet so I threw on this jacket I got at h&m. I have been looking for a trench coat and couldn't find just what I was looking for so I decided to get this jacket when I saw it. So far I really like it.

These Sam Edelman petty boots have already been well loved since I got them. I have the light brown suede version that I wear constantly so when the leather version came out I didn't hesitate. I feel very Alexa Chung in them. And they are the perfect heel height- I really recommend them!

Three

I've been making myself go outside and bring my SLR and see what comes of it. Photography is my main passion and I want to get better and better. There is still so much on the technical side I need to learn and the only way to learn with any craft is to do it often. But it not all about that. Mostly I take pictures because I like doing it and it makes me feel good.

Niagara Falls

I took a "quick" weekend trip to Niagara Falls last weekend. It was already a rainy day, and coupled with the mist from the falls, I got completely soaked. I actually didn't mind. The experience was kind of invigorating. All the other parts of the experience were very touristy and cheesy but I guess that is to be expected. The falls were of course beautiful to see in person and I got to see a lot of northeast fall foliage on the way up there which made the journey worth it.

Music Mix

I put on my tennis shoes this morning and headed out for brisk walk in the park. The combination of the music playing on my iPod and the crisp fall air made me really happy so I got the idea to compile a mix of songs I am currently loving. Everything is better this time of year I am telling myself- including music. My current favorite band is Local Natives. I can't get enough of that first song on the mix.

Trends I'm Into

Usually I'm not one to ardently follow the ever-changing trends, but I can't help but to get on board with some constant pieces I see pop up on blogs and on the street. I feel like if I add any of these three pieces with stuff I already own, it would jazz up an outfit a bit more.

Some simple sandals paired with my boy jeans and a comfy sweater? Yes please. I'd pair an oversized sweater with a leather (or faux leather) skirt, too, like in the picture. I recently got one at h&m. I also have a similar menswear inspired shirt at forever21 that I probably will wear with dark jeans and a blazer.

Upper East Side Peeks

I love when the sky is sort of dark and gloomy. It made my feel quite introspective during my early evening walk. So much so that I nearly got run over by a biker. He was not pleased. New York has a way of keeping you on your toes that's for sure.

Sunset in Brooklyn

Untitled

Hanging out with friends as the sun goes down on a summer night.

I've been a little stressed out as of late. Trying to figure out what I want to do and what career I want is consuming and overwhelming. However, I don't want it to prevent me from appreciating special moments like this. That's why I love photography- because it helps me stay in the present.

A quote I try to keep in mind:
If you are depressed you are living the in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present. -Lao Tzu

The Swamp

These are some pictures of a family trip I took a few years back. The swamp-like environment was such a surreal place to be and I couldn't help but take some pictures. More can be found on my flickr :)

loving lately

Usually I enjoy the colder months but after enduring gloomy day after gloomy day, coupled with a new cold that is always popping up, it is safe to say that I am looking forward to springtime. However, there are a few things that I have been loving as of late that are making this winter a bit more cozy.

First off is this adorablely-package body wash from Soap & Glory. Not only does this shower gel smell absolutely divine, but it leaves my skin feeling super moisturized when I get out of the shower. This stuff seriously makes me happy every time I use it and is a great pick-me-up.

This warm infinity scarf from Urban Outfitters. It so soft and cozy I feel like I wrapped up in a blanket when I am riding on the subway.

And lastly I've been enjoying eating copious amounts of ramen soup. Especially when accompanied by dear friends whom I wished didn't live so far away.

I can't wait to visit you again, Momofuku!

Nora Zehetner for Refinery29

I loved this Refinery 29 street style feature and interview with actress Nora Zehetner. I remember how stunning she was in Brick and my girl crush has totally been rekindled. Her style, especially in that last photo, is so lovely.

New Year

I am feeling good about the new year. 2012 was such a transitional year for me that I feel like 2013 is all about moving forward. I guess my new years resolution is to stay positive, driven, and just to have fun and embrace this wonderful city. New York City is the perfect place to be for a new start. I feel like I am in the honeymoon stage of living here right now and I hope it stays this way forever!

Things have been pretty hectic lately, and whenever I have down time I am dealing with a new cold that pops up. However, I do want to make more time for blogging because it is something I enjoy.

Anyway, I am looking forward to what 2013 is going to bring.
